New to Imovie and digital video

I just got an macbook (Core dual wth 1 gig of RAM and 80 gig drive in black) and am I trying imovie HD for the first time. I got a Canon ZR500 for Christmas and I purchased a firewire cable from a local retailer. Try as I might, can't get it to capture video/audio from the camera as described in the manual. In the manual, it says all I need is the firewire cable. I have also tried on a macbook pro and a emac since with no luck. I have also purchased a second 4 to 6 pin cable just in case. Does anyone have any advice I can try?

Thanks in advance,

Hi...dont know if this will help you...but when i first go my panasonic...imovie couldnt see it to capture, after searching the web, i found a suggestion that i needed to first set the date and time info on the camera...once i did that, imovie was able to work!!!! maybe this "trick" will work for you -vee
